The incident occurred at Ruichang No 1 High School, where a teacher surnamed Qi dissolved a WeChat group after learning that three high-scoring students had not listed Peking University (PKU) or Tsinghua University — collectively known as qingbei — among their college preferences.

According to the school's statement released on Monday, Qi had recommended the students apply to PKU and Tsinghua based on their strong gaokao (national college entrance exam) results and prior discussions with parents. Upon discovering on Saturday that the students declined the advice, Qi posted inappropriate remarks in the group before deleting it entirely.
